There’s no denying that life is stressful. Schedules are busy. Obligations seem to never end. Maybe you’re overloaded at work or running around every second of the day with the kids. Whatever is causing you to feel constantly overwhelmed, you’re not alone.

You also don’t have to tell yourself it will never end.

Feeling overwhelmed all of the time can lead to extra stress, and other mental health conditions like anxiety and depression. Being able to break the cycle is important for your well-being and your future. So, let’s take a look at a few strategies you can use to find peace, even with a stressful life.

Get to the Source

One of the best ways to break the cycle of feeling constantly overwhelmed is to determine the things that are causing you to feel that way. You might not be able to completely eliminate stress from your life. But, there are things you can do to take away the things that are “too much” to handle.

Maybe you’re taking on too much work. Maybe you have unrealistic expectations, or your schedule is too busy. By figuring out what’s causing you to feel like you’re being buried, you can take steps to reduce or eliminate the problem.

Set Healthy Boundaries

Remind yourself that it’s okay to say “no” to things. If you have too many commitments or you’re taking on too many projects, prioritze the things that are most important, and let go of the things that are unnecessary.

That could include not taking on extra projects at work, or splitting the travel responsibilities your kids have with your partner. Setting boundaries and making sure people know what they are is a great way to take your time back in a healthy, respectful way.

Practice Self-Care

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, your own personal wellness might take a back seat. Unfortunately, that’s going to end up causing more stress and mental health issues.

Prioritize doing at least one thing each day that promotes your well-being. It could be getting enough sleep, staying physically active, or writing in a journal.

Self-care practices like mindfulness and meditation can help you stay grounded in the present. If you struggle with feeling overwhelmed because you’re constantly thinking about what’s next, these practices can be a great way to calm your nerves and help you enjoy what’s right in front of you.

Celebrate Your Wins

Don’t hesitate to celebrate when you accomplish even the smallest of goals. Did you complete a project at work? Treat yourself to your favorite pastry or coffee drink! Are all of the chores around the house done? Give yourself a break and curl up with your favorite book for the night.

Celebrating your wins gives you the opportunity to pause, take a break, and take care of yourself. These little celebrations will help you to stay motivated while reducing stress. They will also remind you of the important things in your life and how they make you feel.

Talk to Someone

If you’re having a hard time breaking the cycle of feeling constantly overwhelmed, don’t try to tackle it on your own. Putting more stress on your shoulders isn’t going to solve the problem. If you’re really struggling, consider talking to a mental health professional.

Anxiety counseling is a great way to identify where your stress is coming from. You can use that as a starting point to minimize it, and your therapist can offer strategies to help along the way.
